I'm just a girl II by pbird12 I'm just a girl II by pbird12
I don't know about anyone else, but I sometimes start a drawing and halfway through forget to look at my reference and get carried away, then, by the time I'm done, it doesn't look anything like what I was trying to draw :P Anyway, this started life as Mila Kunis and now she is just a girl ... again! I kinda like her anyway so didn't bother trying to work out what went wrong

I love minimal drawings (we all know Ileana Hunter is the best at these here on dA) but my friend Nat :iconlilaeabluecoat: says I don't do minimal, I do medium. So here is a medium :D Drawn to get my stone fingers working again.

Materials:
A4 (bit smaller) bristol board
Graphite - 3H, 2B, 4B and 6B
Eraser
Time: About 5-6 hours
Ref: In this little lot somewhere :P theplace2.ru/photos/gallery.ph…

Print available in my shop - www.etsy.com/shop/BrighteyesAr…
Original available in my shop - www.etsy.com/listing/163663294…

A closer detail -

Thank you for taking a look
Paula

A little note: My new scanner/printer sucks. I think it will be time to purchase the fourth in 2 years very soon :(

I like how you drew her hair! That could've gotten very dark and 'massive' (if you get what I mean), but you kept it light and flowing. Great job. :aww:

Thanks again  It is easy to get a solid mass on dark hair, I know what you mean .. I'm glad she doesn't look that way :D

 Great job doing a medium! But since you are the only one doing these there is nothing to compare it too... :bucktooth:
I like how the hair looks, so free and flowing. It looks so easy to draw like this but I know it is everything but easy. The eyes of course are just brilliant but they always are in your drawings!!

Recognized her immediately from the thumb alone, so you díd get a good likeness!
Beautiful drawing; her eyes are very captivating!

'Medium'. Hehehe... Had forgotten I said that, but in retrospect: Hey! I did a funny! ;)

Gorgeous work, Paula! Love your work and always learn something in viewing it! I have to agree with zakkiya, you do such incredible eyes, I owe a lot of my new found success in drawings eyes to you! Thank you! I found the printer discussion interesting. I feel like a stinge, with the printer, like you my daughter loves to print up a storm and I am the bad guy always on guard when I hear the printer clicking on. It's HP.

Oh, I feel mean too, but if you don't limit it, it would be new cartridges every week :giggle:

I was actually recommended to buy an HP printer after having trouble with epsons but so far I'm very unimpressed with both the scanning and the print quality :(

:icondisgustedplz: I bought an HP laptop (having good history with HP) and the touchpad has been randomly quitting on me since day one. :iconannoyedplz: I recently heard HP's laptops were rated the second worst, but I can't seem to cite the source.

Great drawing
If you want a good printer make sure it has a grey ink cartridge as well as black, Its harder for a printer to do b+w for some reason. I like to use an old brother 2030 laser b+w. It's quick to print, super reliable (no clogged ink jets) and very cheap to run.The toner lasts for 1000s of pages
The prints are not great, but it makes you work a little harder and you always have your screen to reference :)

I'm not a fan of inkjets, they waste a lot of ink cleaning heads and on start up.
Every time you switch it on it goes through a head cleaning cycle that wastes ink.
If you do a lot of printing get a continuous ink system for your printer.
Canon generally make the best inkjets ones with 4 inks (grey) are quite pricey
but can offset with the continuous ink system on running costs :)

I've never used one so read up on it, a friend who's a pro photographer for a magazine told me 10 years ago lol :)

Thank you again, this is great, I really do need to have a think about what to get next time and will look into this :)

I use so much ink it's scary, between me printing refs and my little girl printing off everything under the sun, it's a nightmare

The epson 1400 seems to be popular,A3 good reviews has grey ink, only thing people complain about is small cartridges but you can use the cis as demonstrated here:

The printer is £300 new or around £150 for a refurb on ebay.
Good luck

Yes, I know what you mean, I end up doing that all the time because there is no need to try to draw something you see in a reference perfectly. Art is in the eye of the beholder and I just get carried away and only use references to get the accuracy down on certain things but other than that my art work is normally 100 percent originally creeated :iconawesomeplz: You do fantastic work regardless of whether or not you used a reference. You never truly copy art...it is what you make it out to be. Remember that because there is no right or wrong way to produce it. :iconplzhug: :iconflyingheartsplz:

It does take some of the fun away but I guess if your in art classes and your teacher wants you to copy the exact reference its a little different because your grade depends on it. However I do art for the fun of it and maybe someday it will be a side career for me who knows :iconpeekingplz:
