October Draw Along WIPs by pbird12 October Draw Along WIPs by pbird12
This months #Draw-Along WIP1

WIP2 - another hour or so. This will be my last WIP for this one

Thought I'd give pastels a try for the second time, I hope number 2 is not a pastel disaster like my first attempt :la:

2 hours so far (not including my sketch) - who knows how many more, I'm not used to pastels, but they're fast!!!

I'll put all credits in the final drawing and as always will add more WIPs to this one as I go along

Pastels look really hard to use... how do you get any kind of accuracy with them?! I can never seem to manage it!

I struggle with pastels too, but love the way they look. This one turned out the best so far though. The tiny details I got by either snapping the pastel to make a sharp edge, but the really tiny ones, I used colour pencils over the top :D I'm a cheat lol

How in the world do you do it? It's amazing. I just use a camera and my eye, but you have to craft it and from the ground-up. :jawdop: You people (like you,Jon, and Myra) are stunning :iconbadassplz:

Ah Paula, forgot to say: should you make a mistake, the procedure is: erase away, with some plastic or gum rubber. The pastel won't all go away, but whatever remains you can cover it with more pastel. Pastels are a lot more forgiving than, say, coloured pencils. Also, usually pastel papers can take quite a bit of abuse. They are not as thick as a Bristol board, but they are somewhat sturdy.

Now you did correctly your sketch with a sepia tone. Good gal! :D

Thanks Ariel,

I had some messy bits and used a kneaded eraser to lift it off, but I'll try a plastic eraser now and see if I can get rid of some more :D

I had Daler pastel paper and really liked that, but this time ordered fabriano and it's a bit too thin :( Still okay though, but it could be better, so I should be careful what I'm doing

I did sepia my sketch, I remembered :D
