Who's the boss? WIP by pbird12 Who's the boss? WIP by pbird12
A couple of WIP's of my new drawing.
I'll pop all the reference details in the finished drawing :)

About 4 hours on this one so far

UPDATE1 - Another couple of hours on this one, I'll just do one more WIP after this. The scanner has started to freak out at the dark and it's all going weird, but we'll see :P
UPDATE2 - Last WIP on this one. It shouldn't take too long now.

Quick Note: I was asked if the black on this is a digital edit, no it's not. I don't add ANYTHING digitally (if I did it would be in my comments) .... it's just not my thing. You can see at the bottom left my first layer of graphite, that's only there because of the negative hair and I need to erase, it's 2B and applied messily, it wont be there for long. The dark in the top left corner is 8B Mars lumo, it is jet black and completely opaque and covers the paper like a thick layer of charcoal. On top is 6B applied using circulism. No digital, no edit, just patience :D

Thank you ... I'm having difficulty with her hands at the moment but I'll get it there :-) I've not started on her face yet either but I want to try to capture that look! I think that's what'll make or break the piece :D

Her face is priceless, loads of character, I'm sure you'll get it ;p

If it makes you feel better, it's the hand on my drawing that's taking FOREVER too :( I kinda suck at drawing hands most of the time :P

Looks amazing! :) So to get the black, you use a Mars Lumo? I have a few, but I have a pic with some black, and wonder if I should use those, or cheat with some charcoal :D I'm worried that it's hard to get that black without sealing it like you did with the 6B, but my 6B's are not Staedler so they aren't as black :(....wondering if it will look wierd ;) Might have to see how black I can get it with just the 8B :D

Thank you

I do, it has to be an 8B mars lumo, all the other grades are just the same as any other brand  Nooooo don't use messy charcoal or carbon, I swear this pencil does this same thing, but better and neater and with almost no mess at all :la:

You also wouldn't have to seal it really until your finished, it stays put. I only go over the top because I like it all to look shiny but it's matt just like charcoal it doesn't even look like a graphite pencil, it looks like carbon.

The only thing is, it doesn't layer over the top of anything well, it works best just on it own, just the same as charcoal really.

Okay, waffle much Paula? :faint:

Rubbish Waffling skillz! My waffling > your waffling all the way! :D I re-read my original message to you and hardly recognise a reasonable sentence! :D Right so you mainly go over it to get it shiny! :D Ah that's ok then :)

Yeh I discovered after I bought my 8B's that they don't go over normal graphite pencils as they are a totally different makeup it seems...they have to go on first or not at all hehe :D I'll do that then...I have so much I want to draw, but keep seeing lovely new references to have a go at! :(

Good plan! I am looking forward to seeing the little fluttery guys :eager: I'm all over the place too your not alone, I have a Jack Sparrow thing I have on the go, I drew it on A3 and it's so awkward! I like my little drawing board in my lap, it's putting me off finishing it :(

Aww :) Well I still haven't attempted my first A3 piece...I know what I want to do, it's just there is so much in the queue! Been talking to my brother about a website, but struggling for a name heh. I had a few ideas, but most are already taken or have something very close to it...so need a rethink :) Going to look at starting a small part time business for doing a few portraits and commissions...see if there's any interest :) Should be fun :D

This pencil is very very good, I keep waffling about it, but it's true :giggle: It has to be the Staedtler Mars lumo though, it's one of a kind :D
